Suspending Minnow Jerkbait for Pike and Zander with Twitching Action and Effective Pause Presentations

The SPRO McStick 110 is a suspending minnow jerkbait developed for anglers targeting pike, zander and other freshwater predators. Designed in collaboration with professional angler Mike McClelland, this hard lure is particularly effective when fish are reluctant to chase fast-moving prey. Its slim 110 mm body closely resembles a natural baitfish, while the 14 g weight provides comfortable casting performance. With a running depth of approximately 1.5 m, the McStick 110 is well suited to working along weed edges, submerged features and shallow drop-offs. Its neutral buoyancy allows the lure to remain in the strike zone during pauses, creating additional opportunities for hesitant predators to attack. The McStick 110 combines a controlled swimming action with responsive movement when twitched. On a steady retrieve, the lure produces a relatively tight side-to-side action, while short rod-tip jerks create irregular changes of direction that imitate a struggling baitfish. McStick 110

Its greatest strength lies in the stop-and-go presentation, where sequences of twitches are followed by deliberate pauses. During these pauses, the carefully balanced lure suspends with a slightly nose-down posture. This behaviour makes it particularly useful for cold water fishing in early spring and late autumn, when predators often respond better to slower presentations.

Equipped with three sharp Gamakatsu NSB Round Bend size #5 treble hooks, the SPRO McStick 110 offers dependable hooking performance when predators strike. A selection of natural and contrasting colour patterns helps anglers match the lure to water clarity and local baitfish. Varying the length of each pause is an important part of fishing this suspending jerkbait, especially when targeting less active fish. Combining precise twitching control, neutral buoyancy and an effective pause presentation, the McStick 110 is a versatile choice for spinning and baitcasting anglers seeking a reliable minnow lure for pike and zander.
